How to Know God's Will for Your Life: The Butterfly Effect of Obedience
27 May 2026 · 7 min read
You felt a nudge to phone someone this week and you did not do it. Small obedience is how God writes big stories, and most people are waiting for a voice when they have already been given a nudge.
You felt a nudge to phone someone this week and you did not do it. You sensed you should send the message, make the call, say the encouraging word, and you talked yourself out of it because it seemed too small to matter.
Most believers are waiting for a billboard while heaven is speaking in nudges. God rarely reveals chapter twelve to someone still arguing about chapter two. Direction is given to people in motion.
Obedience compounds. One small yes puts you in a room. That room introduces a relationship. That relationship opens a door you could not have engineered on your best strategic day. This is the butterfly effect of obedience, and it is how most callings actually unfold.
So stop asking only the big question. Ask the near question: what is the next right thing God has already shown me? Do that, and the fog lifts one step at a time.
Three tests for a nudge. Does it agree with Scripture? Does it produce peace rather than panic? Does it serve someone other than yourself? If the answer is yes three times, act.
God's will is far less mysterious than we make it. It is usually the thing you already know to do and have been avoiding.
